(March 1, 2013)—Third in the Cal Breeders Champion Stakes going one mile on a wet fast main track on Jan. 26, Surfcup returned to the turf on Friday and the result was a facile 1 ¾ length win going one mile in Santa Anita’s $58,000 Rancho Palos Verdes Purse for 3-year-olds bred in California.

(Jan. 12, 2013)—Color the comeback of Hall of Fame jockey Gary Stevens complete.  A winner of three Kentucky Derbies and eight Breeders’ Cup races, Stevens emerged from a seven-year hiatus to win Saturday’s first race at Santa Anita aboard the Tom Proctor-conditioned filly, Branding, winning from off the pace by 2 ½ lengths while covering seven furlongs in 1:23.94.

(Nov. 4, 2012)—In a racing first, English-bred Rhythm of Light, who won the Group II International Istanbul Trophy in Istanbul, Turkey, on Sept. 1, shipped to Santa Anita and won her U.S. debut on Sunday, the Grade II Goldikova Stakes for fillies and mares at one mile on turf as Santa Anita’s 24-day Autumn Meet drew to a close.

(Sept. 30, 2012)—Slim Shadey, freshened following a disappointing run in the Grade I Eddie Read Stakes at Del Mar on July 21, pulled jockey Garrett Gomez to the lead in the Grade II, $150,000 John Henry Turf Championship at 1 ¼ miles and never looked back, wiring a nine-horse field by 2 ¼ lengths while getting the distance in 1:59.17.
