Patterson claims fourth steer roping gold buckle

Photo from The 101 Wild West Rodeo
MULVANE, Kan. – Breaking records isn’t what steer roper Rocky Patterson is all about.  The humble Pratt, Kan., cowboy just enjoys competing in an event he loves.  Whether Patterson likes to boast or not, no one in the PRCA has ever had a more lucrative steer roping season than he just completed. Patterson won his fourth gold buckle with a single-season steer roping record of $141,350. He reached that milestone by earning $56,432 at the 2016 Clem McSpadden National Finals Steer Roping Nov. 11-12.
“It’s big,” said Patterson, 50, about his latest victory.  Patterson broke the previous single-season steer roping record of $121,112, set by Trevor Brazile in 2015.

BREEDERS’ CUP WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

$6 Million Breeders’ Cup Classic (Grade I)
Three-Year-Olds & Up
1 1/4 Miles

Arrogate/Hoppertunity – Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert’s Breeders’ Cup Classic duo both galloped 1 3/8m Friday morning under exerciserider Dana Barnes.
“Probably they’ll just walk tomorrow, but I won’t make that decision until 6 in the morning,” Baffert said. “They’re both ready as they can be and if they do anything (Saturday morning) it will be very light.”
California Chrome – When you train the world’s richest thoroughbred and are favored to take home the top prize money of $3,600,000 from the Breeders’ Cup Classic on Saturday, one would assume that solid conditioning, meticulous planning and a little racing luck should suffice. But, leaving nothing to chance, California Chrome’s connections will be taking some additional insurance by wearing their “lucky” attire for the 1 1/4m fixture.
