CHEYENNE, Wyo. — July 22, 2013 — It was a better than average day for three contestants at the 117th annual “Daddy of ‘em All” on Monday.  Bradley Harter is using momentum he gained over the weekend at rodeos in Nampa, Idaho, and Salinas, Calif., here. The saddle bronc rider took the lead in the first round with an 85-point ride on C5 Rodeo’s Betty Bucks. Harter, from Weatherford, Texas, won nearly $10,000 last week and could add to that significantly here.

In the bull riding, J.W. Harris from Mullin, Texas, is the new leader in the first round after an 86-point effort on Magic Man, also owned by C5 Rodeo. The three-time world champion is just two points ahead of College National Finals Rodeo qualifier Sage Kimzey from Strong City, Okla., who also rode here on Monday.

In the tie-down roping, two-time and reigning world champion Tuf Cooper had the fastest time of the day at 11.3 seconds. That is also the fastest time in the first round.

These three men have several things in common. Each of them has more than $1 million in career earnings with Harter and Cooper just reaching that milestone earlier this year. Between the three of them, they have 19 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualifications. In spite of all of their success in arenas across the country none of them have won a Cheyenne Frontier Days Championship.

History may be made at this year’s rodeo in team roping. In preliminary competition Monday morning, Willow Raley from Baggs, Wyo., and her team roping partner, Pake Younger from Grand Junction, Colo., stopped the clock in 8.4 seconds. This is currently second in the first round. If their time stays in the top eight in the round through Friday, Raley will be the first woman to ever collect a check in a Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association event in the Frontier Park Arena. They rope their second one Tuesday morning and with another clean run will be in good shape to be back here for Sundday’s championship round.

Harter, Cooper and Harris all have their second round competition during Tuesday’s rodeo.

The fourth performance of the 117th annual Daddy of ‘Em All starts at 12:15 p.m., Tuesday. vAction continues Monday night with the first performance of Championship Bull Ridings World Championships starting at 8 p.m.
