Jennie Brannigan – Cambalda

The final days leading up to a big event always seem like they pass by while you’re still holding your breath, hoping you’ll indeed make it there. As I sit and write this final blog, it comes with a little bit of relief that, yes, I still have a horse to write about competing at Rolex.

I was happy to have Ping go so well in his final outing before Kentucky, The Fork CIC***, where he finished second in a very competitive field. He jumped what I believe to be the two smoothest rounds I’ve had on him and was lovely in the dressage (except for his pilot making an error—I turned the wrong way in a half pass). The good news is that I’ve beenpracticing the test for Rolex so much that one would hope my brain will be able to do it even on autopilot!

Will Coleman – Twizzel

This stage of any Rolex journey is often the most nerve-wracking. With one or two gallops left before putting our horses on the truck for Lexington, KY, we riders are on edge, hoping everything stays well and sound until that day comes to head off for Rolex. In my case, I have not been shy in saying that, with Twizzel, who turned 17 this year, there was a good chance we could not end up leaving the start box at this event in a couple weeks. Twizzel has given Jim and I an awful lot. Two top-five four-star finishes, multiple wins and top-five finishes at the three-star level, and an Olympic Games this past summer are no small feats.

Stephen Blauner – Owner

My “Trading Aces” jacket (thank you SmartPak) has arrived. I just sent in my photo for the stable pass, and my check to PRO for the Owner’s Dinner. The dedicated folks who run the event (thank you Christina) are converting my Patron’s Pass to a Sponsor’s Pass. All of which means we are going to Rolex.
