Peebles winning ways continue at Reno Rodeo

RENO, NEV., June 24, 2013 — Other than a world title, there are few championships that Steven Peebles from Redmond, Ore., would like to win more than the Reno Rodeo.

The best finish for the bareback rider came just one year after joining the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association in 2008. He was the reserve champion here in 2009 behind Kaycee Feild. Last year he finished in fourth place and while money is important, he wants to see his name on the list of champions here. And, last year, Kaycee Feild again won a piece of the championship when he tied with Ryan Gray.

Peebles made his first appearance here Sunday night and scored 81 points. He came back on Monday and scored 80, enough to move him into second place in the overall category with 160 points on two. Wes Stevenson from Lubbock, Texas, still leads with a huge margin of eight points at 169.

The Justin Sportsmedicine Team has kept busy at the last two Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR) caring for Peebles. In 2011 he broke his leg, had surgery and missed most of the winter rodeos. He qualified for the 2012 NFR and struggled throughout with hip problems. He again had surgery, this time to repair torn cartilage, ligaments and muscles. He just returned to competition earlier this month, has four wins under his belt and has moved to 24th in the world standings.

“I feel really good,” Peebles said. “I’m craving getting on bucking horses and competing. I’ll be back Saturday night ready to do it all over again.”

There is a new leader in every category of the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association barrel race. Sherry Cervi made her first run in pre rodeo competition and set the pace with the fastest run of the rodeo so far at 17.24 seconds. Then she came back for her second run during the rodeo and beat her previous time with a 17.19. She now has command of the overall standings with a total time of 34.43 seconds. She is now over half a second ahead of Cindy Woods from Newburg, Ore., who has a 34.97.

The fifth performance begins at 7 pm Tuesday. Tickets are available at www.renorodeo.com or by calling 800-325-7328. For more information, please call 775-329-3877.
