“Texas-sized” $100,000 purse for World’s best bull riders; PRCA Xtreme Bulls Tour returns to San Antonio on Feb. 23

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo will offer a record $100,000 purse on Sat., Feb. 23 when the PRCA Xtreme Bulls Tour comes to Texas. The San Antonio Xtreme Bulls event always attracts ProRodeo’s best bull riders – and it figures to be something of an extreme “grudge match” with such big money at stake.

The prize money total equals the Xtreme Bulls Tour record set at this same event a year ago and if a bull rider were to win both rounds and the average – as Kanin Asay did at the AT&T Center a year ago – he could bank about $29,000.

The headliners include four PRCA World Champions and 11 bull riding qualifiers from the 2012 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas, matched against the rankest PRCA bulls, many of which were selected for this past December’s Wrangler NFR.

Leading the cast is reigning World Champion Cody Teel, of Kountze, Texas, and he is joined by; 2008-10 World Champion J.W. Harris, of Mullin, Texas;  2007 World Champion Wesley Silcox of Santaquin, Utah, and 2004 World Champion Dustin Elliott, of North Platte, Neb.

In addition to Teel and Harris, the field will have 9 other bull riding qualifiers from the 2012 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas – Asay, of Powell, Wyo.; Tag Elliott, of Thatcher, Utah; Trevor Kastner, of Ardmore, Okla.; Ardie Maier, of Timber Lake, S.D.; Cody Samora, of Cortez, Colo.; Clayton Savage, of Casper, Wyo.; Beau Schroeder, of China, Texas; Tate Stratton, of Kellyville, Okla., and  Cody Whitney, of Asher, Okla.

All 50 riders will compete in a long-go on Feb. 23 beginning at 1 p.m., and the top 12 will be brought back for the finals, where the San Antonio Xtreme Bulls champion will be crowned based on the highest average score. Monies won at PRCA Xtreme Bulls Tour stops count towards the 2013 PRCA World Standings, which determine qualifiers for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas.

Following the Feb. 23 Xtreme Bulls event, country music artist Justin Moore, will perform in concert. Tickets for the San Antonio Xtreme Bulls Tour event can be purchased at www.sarodeo.com or by calling 210.225.5851. Tickets are available for $10 and $25. All tickets are for reserved seating and include admission to the grounds. The AT&T Center is located at 3201 East Houston Street.
