Momentum serves San Antonio Stock Show Rodeo contestants well

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Feb.8, 2013) — Several contestants that were successful in the first round of competition at the San Antonio Stock Show Rodeo are using that momentum to their advantage.

Contestants get a fresh start here at each performance with the money they accumulate measuring their success. At the top of the leaderboard so far are tie-down roper Trent Creager and barrel racer Sabrina Ketcham. Both finished in first place in the first and second round and have each earned $3,930.

Creager from Stillwater, Okla., stopped the clock in 8.0 seconds on Friday night for his second win in the AT&T Center. Ketcham, from Yeso, N.M., had a 13.89 to win the second round, just four one-hundredths slower than her 13.85-second run Thursday night.

Matt Bright from Azle, Texas, was alone at the top of the leaderboard in the first round, then tied with Richie Champion from The Woodlands, Texas in the second round. Cody Taton, from Corona, N.M., is in a similar situation. He tied with his traveling partner Isaac Diaz from Desdemona, Texas, on Friday night. Bright and Taton have each earned $3,684 here so far.

All four of these contestants have already earned enough money to assure them a spot in the semi-finals Feb. 19 – 22. However, they each will be competing in the third round on Saturday at the matinee at 1 p.m. where they could add another piece of the $1 million in prize money to their checkbooks. At the end of the matinee performance, the top four money winners in each event will determine who will advance to the semi-finals.

Saturday night’s rodeo, which begins at 7:30, will be the beginning of the second bracket here.
