Tampa, FL – November 30, 2012 – The Florida Gold Coast Quarter Horse Show is pleased to announce that the 2012 High Point Youth or Amateur Award will feature a trip for two to visit World Reining Champion Tom McCutcheon. This year’s competition will feature five full days of events including hunters, equitation, AQHA reining, western pleasure, trail riding, driving, showmanship and halter classes. The Florida Gold Coast Quarter Horse Show is schedule for December 27-31, 2012 at the Florida State Fairgrounds’ Bob Thomas Equestrian Center in Tampa, FL. This year, the show ends on the 31st to help exhibitors take advantage of the six shows needed to accumulate points before the end of the year for the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA).
The 2012 High Point Youth or Amateur Award, featuring the “Inside the Reining Horse World” experience, will be presented to the top rider at the Florida Gold Coast Quarter Horse Show. The award includes: airfare for two to Dallas, Texas, a trip to the ranch of World Champion Tom McCutcheon, a private lesson on school master reiner, a tour of the ranch and breeding facility, as well as a meeting and tour of Tim McQuay’s training and breeding facility, and dinner at the Famous Pappa’s Brother Steakhouse. This amazing opportunity offers a taste of the sport that’s taking the horse world by storm!
One of the National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) elite Million Dollar Riders, McCutcheon is a multiple NRHA Futurity finalist and has twice earned the NRHA Derby Open Reserve Championship, as well as being a four-time Gordyville Breeders Cup Open Reserve Champion. He is a past National Reining Breeders Classic (NRBC) Champion and is a two-time USEF Open Reining Champion. In 2002, McCutcheon was a member of Team USA that won the Gold medal at the World Equestrian Games in Jerez, Spain. He also won the Individual Gold medal and the Team Gold medal at the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in Lexington, KY, and was the FEI World Reining Finals Champion.
“I think this award is something that could really mean a lot to a rider that wants to see what it’s like to have a training and breeding operation,” said McCutcheon. “It will show what can be achieved in the sport with a little luck and a lot of hard work. I think it’s a great opportunity for a rider to see some of the top operations in the business.”
