Beijoca Rallies from Far Back to Win Wednesday’s Mineola Purse at Keeneland

LEXINGTON, KY (October 17, 2012) – Richard, Bertram and Elaine Klein’s Beijoca, last in the early going, powered by the leaders just inside the eighth pole to win the featured $52,000 Mineola Purse for fillies and mares by 2 1/4 lengths over Archetype before a crowd of 10,348 at Keeneland on Wednesday.

Trained by Steve Margolis and ridden by Shaun Bridgmohan, Beijoca covered the 1 ½ miles on a firm turf course in 2:34.16.

The victory, the second in nine starts, was worth $31,000 to the 3-year-old Kentucky-bred daughter of Dynaformer out of the Machiavellian mare Fazenda and increased her earnings to $90,122.

Satyana led the field of 11 through the bulk of the race with Archetype tracking in second. The top two did not change position until midstretch when Beijoca swept past with a rush and drew off to victory.

Beijoca returned $12.40, $5.20 and $4.80. Archetype, ridden by James Graham, returned $4.80 and $4.20 and finished a half-length ahead of Satyana, who paid $8.40 to show under Julien Leparoux.

Racing continues Thursday with a nine-race program beginning at 1:05 p.m. (ET). Highlighting the card is the 18thrunning of the $100,000 Sycamore (G3) at 1½ miles on the turf that will go as the afternoon’s eighth race with a 4:49 post time.
