Aruna to Face 12 Rivals in Bid for Juddmonte Spinster Repeat

LEXINGTON, KY (Oct. 4, 2012) – Flaxman Holdings’ Aruna, seeking to become the fourth horse to win back-to-back runnings of the Juddmonte Spinster (G1), will face 12 rivals Sunday in the 57th running of the $500,000 race at 1 1/8 miles on the main track.

The Juddmonte Spinster is a “Win and You’re In” race for the Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic (G1) to be held November 2 at Santa Anita.

The Juddmonte Spinster will go as the eighth race on Sunday’s nine-race program with a 4:49 p.m. (ET) post time. First post time is 1:05 p.m.

Trained by Graham Motion, Aruna won the 2011 Juddmonte Spinster under Ramon Dominguez, who will be aboard Sunday when Aruna will break from post position three. Aruna will be trying to join Take Charge Lady (2002-03), Bayakoa (ARG) (1989-90) and Bornastar (1957-58) as a winner of consecutive runnings of the Juddmonte Spinster.

In addition to Aruna, two other Grade 1 winners were entered Thursday: Team Valor International’s Summer Soiree and Alex Campbell Jr.’s Karlovy Vary.

Summer Soiree, who also is entered in Saturday’s $350,000 First Lady (G1), won the Del Mar Oaks last year. Also trained by Motion, Summer Soiree drew post position four and would be ridden by Gabriel Saez.

Karlovy Vary won the Central Bank Ashland over Keeneland’s main track this spring. Trained by Rusty Arnold, Karlovy Vary drew post position 12 and will be ridden by Corey Lanerie. In all, 12 of the 13 entrants are graded stakes winners.
