‘Daybreak At Del Mar’ A Special Weekend Breakfast Special

Would you like to wow your visitors to town with the coolest breakfast spot around? We’ve got you covered, every Saturday and Sunday of the summer.

One look at “Daybreak at Del Mar” and your guests will know they’re doing something special. A trackside table at Del Mar, splendid Thoroughbred athletes galloping by, sea breezes, sunshine….and tasty breakfast fare at bargain prices to boot! Folks, you just know it doesn’t get much better.

For the 13th consecutive season, the more-popular-every-year seaside sessions will be offered to racing fans and friends at the track’s Clubhouse Terrace Restaurant on weekends starting on July 21.

The morning menu has something for everyone, including eggs, bacon, sausage, French toast, buttermilk pancakes, fruit, yogurt and a selection of Mexican breakfast items, as well as a choice of juice or coffee. And all of that comes for the still low price of just $9.95.

As the horses go through their training routines in front of the diners, former rider-turned-horse owner and stable manager Jeff Bloom takes microphone in hand to keep folks right up to speed with the happenings on the track. He might point out a stakes horse readying for a major engagement, offer tips on how to enjoy a day at the races or answer questions about various facets of the sport.

“Daybreak” goes from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. every Saturday and Sunday of the meet. Fans are encouraged to park in the track’s main lot off Jimmy Durante Blvd. and go through the Clubhouse entrance to the restaurant on the second floor. There is no charge for attending the sessions, but there is a $10 parking fee. However, in keeping with the bargain theme of the mornings, the cost of the parking fee will be subtracted from the bill of those buying two or more breakfasts.

Del Mar’s 75th anniversary season begins Wednesday, July 18. Racing will be conducted five days per week, Wednesdays through Sundays. First post is 2 p.m. daily with the exception of Fridays when racing starts at 4 p.m.
