RENO, NEV., June 22, 2012 — There was a shakeup in the saddle bronc riding at the eighth performance of the Reno Rodeo that changed the travel plans of six of the twelve final round qualifiers.
Six men that competed here on Thursday and Friday are making plans to stay another day, while another six who were hoping to travel back here are going other places. Leader of the pack is Bradley Harter who won the saddle bronc riding championship spurs in 2010. Harter, from Weatherford, Texas, has a total score of 161 points on two rides and is currently in fifth.
He is followed by the reigning world champion Taos Muncy from Corona, N.M., with 160. Australian Cody Angland and Jesse Bail from South Dakota are tied at 159. Other South Dakota natives, Troy Crowser and Chuck Schmidt are in ninth and twelfth respectively.
The first four positions are held by Cody Demoss from Louisiana, Utah’s Jesse Wright and world champions Chad Ferley and Jeff Willert also from South Dakota. There are 13 points separating the top 12 saddle bronc riders here. Wright, who is the defending champion will be a fan favorite to win his second set of spurs.
Reigning world champion bareback rider is tied at the top of the leader board with fellow Utahan Caleb Bennett with 166 points. World standings leader West Stevenson is continuing his winning ways. The Lubbock, Texas resident is in tied for third with his traveling partner Tom McFarland who lives in Bowie, Texas with 163. Stevenson and McFarland both moved into the top 12 on Friday night.
