LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Friday, Sept. 18, 2026)<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 The\u00a0Chicago Cubs<\/b>\u00a0flew the W at Churchill Downs on Thursday night when\u00a0Alex<\/b>\u00a0Bregman<\/b>\u2019s\u00a0Act of Parliament<\/b>\u00a0rallied to win the final race of the evening with nearly the entire team there to celebrate.<\/p>\n

The Cubs used their Thursday off day to visit Churchill Downs before beginning a three-game series Friday against the Cincinnati Reds.<\/p>\n

Trained by\u00a0Will Walden<\/b>, Act of Parliament overcame a troubled start and rallied five-wide under\u00a0Axel Concepcion<\/b>\u00a0to win the 6 \u00bd-furlong maiden claiming event by three-quarters of a length. The 3-year-old son of Quality Road completed the distance in 1:18.07 and returned $8.68.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was electric,\u201d Walden said. \u201cTo have Alex and the entire team here and then have the horse come through like that made it a pretty special night.\u201d<\/p>\n

The evening quickly became a team affair. Several Cubs rookies dressed in racing-themed costumes, including pitcher\u00a0Ryan<\/b>\u00a0Rolison<\/b>, who spent part of the evening in a horse costume, and\u00a0Pedro Ramirez<\/b>, who dressed as a jockey. Cubs center fielder\u00a0Pete<\/b>\u00a0Crow-Armstrong<\/b>\u00a0also delivered a paddock pep talk to Act of Parliament before the race.<\/p>\n

\u201cPCA pep talk, we couldn\u2019t lose,\u201d Bregman said.<\/p>\n

Apparently, he was right.<\/p>\n

Act of Parliament, who was squeezed at the start, settled off the pace before circling the field five-wide and getting up in the final strides.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat a fun night,\u201d Concepcion said. \u201cIt was so awesome to have the support of the entire team. You could hear them and feel the energy. It was something I\u2019ll never forget.\u201d<\/p>\n

The celebration carried into the winner\u2019s circle, where Cubs players chanted \u201cAxel\u201d before lifting Concepcion into the air. Manager\u00a0Craig Counsell<\/b>\u00a0even got involved and led Act of Parliament into the winner\u2019s circle after the race.<\/p>\n

Act of Parliament, who was purchased for $65,000 at the Fasig-Tipton August Digital Sale and banked $27,108 Thursday, was claimed in a six-way shake for $20,000 by\u00a0Four Corners Racing<\/b>,\u00a0Cory Moelis Racing<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0Jeremy Sussman<\/b>\u00a0and transferred to trainer\u00a0Matt Shirer<\/b>.<\/p>\n
