LEXINGTON, KY (Oct. 26, 2016) \u2013 Makin\u2019 Sense, ridden by Calvin Borel, held off late charges from Moonlight Sky and Fitpitcher to win the $62,000 Upson Downs Purse for fillies and mares by a head before a Wednesday afternoon crowd of 9,928.<\/p>\n

Trained by Carl Nafzger for James B. Tafel LLC, Makin\u2019 Sense ran the 1 1\/8 miles on the firm turf course in 1:52.32.<\/p>\n

The 4-year-old, Kentucky-bred Makin\u2019 Sense represents the same connections who won the 2007 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum Brands (G1) with her sire, Street Sense. Makin\u2019 Sense is out of the A.P. Indy mare Windyindy.<\/p>\n

Makin\u2019 Sense returned $22.40, $7.80 and $5.40. Moonlight Sky, ridden by Robby Albarado, was second and paid $3.20 and $2.60 to place. Fitpitcher, with Mitchell Murrill aboard, was third and paid $5.20 to show.<\/p>\n

Racing resumes Thursday with a nine-race program beginning at 1:05 p.m. ET. Keeneland\u2019s 17-day Fall Meet concludes Saturday.

\nOn Wednesday afternoon, Keeneland presented a $15,000 check to Blue Grass Farms Charities<\/a>, a nonprofit dedicated to serving employees of Central Kentucky\u2019s Thoroughbred industry and their families.
\nFounded in 2003, BGFC is funded solely by private donations and grants. The organization, which held its annual gala fundraiser, Racino, at the Keeneland Entertainment Center, recently provided the Keeneland Chaplaincy program with 85 backpacks filled with school supplies to distribute to the school-aged children of stable area employees.
\nIn December, BGFC\u2019s annual Festival of Christmas at Keeneland\u2019s The Thoroughbred Center will welcome industry workers and their families for holiday entertainment, a visit with Santa and Christmas dinner supplies.<\/p>\n
