ELMONT\u00a0, N.Y. \u2013 Following are quotes from this morning\u2019s post position draw for Saturday\u2019s 145th<\/sup>\u00a0running of the Grade 1, $1 million Belmont Stakes:<\/p>\n

Orb (3-1), post position 5<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Trainer Shug McGaughey:<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0 \u201cI just didn\u2019t want to get down on the inside where maybe we might get stuck around the first turn, like we sort of did in the Preakness. I said middle, and that\u2019s pretty much the middle.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI think, on paper, there is going to be a bit of a pace, so he\u2019ll be able to kind of drop out of it and dictate what he wants to do. If there isn\u2019t, and they\u2019re going in :49 and some change, then he can be laying up there. I just hope he has some place to go when the time comes.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Trainer D. Wayne Lukas:\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>\u201cI think we overanalyze [the post position draw] a lot. It\u2019s nice for the press to have something to write about today, but, really, at a mile and a half with that long run and the sweeping turns, we have a tendency to overanalyze the post position draw. I\u2019m more concerned about who is around me and what they\u2019re going to do than what gate we got.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Revolutionary (9-2), post position 9; Unlimited Budget (8-1), post position 13; Palace Malice (15-1), post position 12<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Trainer Todd Pletcher:\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>\u201cWe were kind of hoping Unlimited Budget would draw toward the outside. I think Palace Malice, maybe, will show some speed, so we\u2019re happy to be outside of Freedom Child and Oxbow.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI think [the 1 \u00bd-mile distance] will suit [Revolutionary] well. He\u2019s a horse who turns off really easily. I think he\u2019ll settle in the first part of the race. That\u2019s important if you\u2019re going to get the mile and a half.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Unlimited Budget (8-1), post position 13; Overanalyze (12-1), post position 3; Midnight Taboo (30-1), post position 8<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Owner Mike Repole:\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>\u201cTodd and I spoke about Unlimited Budget being on the outside. She got the 13 post. I actually like Palace Malice is on the inside [of her]. I think he\u2019ll go and she\u2019ll follow him. We wanted Midnight Taboo and Overanalyze inside the top eight, and [Overanalyze drew post 3 and Midnight Taboo drew post 8].\u201d<\/p>\n

Freedom Child (8-1), post position 2<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Trainer Tom Albertrani:\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>\u201cI think we were hoping to get a little farther toward the middle, but we dealt with post 1 in the Peter Pan, so we\u2019ll just deal with post 2 in the Belmont . I don\u2019t know if he\u2019s the kind of horse that wants to be behind horses, because he\u2019s got a free-running style. He\u2019ll probably want to find himself clear into the first turn, whether he has to use himself a little bit into the turn like he did in the Peter Pan when he broke real slow and worked his way to the front. It just depends on how he leaves there. He\u2019ll just have to work his way on the inside there and see where he ends up.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Golden Soul (10-1), post position 14<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Trainer Dallas Stewart:\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>\u201cHe\u2019s a colt that handles everything that\u2019s thrown at him. We\u2019ll just see. Hopefully, he\u2019ll be able to save some ground somehow, some way, and we\u2019ll see what happens. It\u2019s a bit of a challenge from post 14, but he\u2019s the type of horse that\u2019s met a lot of challenges.\u201d<\/p>\n

Vyjack (20-1), post position 11<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Trainer Rudy Rodriguez:\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>\u201cI think we\u2019re in very good shape. We\u2019ll see. I think we got a good draw; we\u2019ll just hope for the best. At least we didn\u2019t get the outside. I didn\u2019t want to be all the way outside, so it\u2019s good. It should be OK.\u201d<\/p>\n

Owner David Wilkenfeld:<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0\u201cI think for a mile and a half, it\u2019s fine. The key is that he relaxes, more than anything.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Trainer Kiaran McLaughlin:\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>\u201cI\u2019m just happy there\u2019s 14 in there, and I\u2019m one of them. I don\u2019t have any worries about the post. He\u2019s battle-tested, so we\u2019ll hope for the best, and hope that his pedigree kicks in at the quarter pole.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n
