(Oct. 17, 2012)\u2014<\/span>Glen Hill Farm\u2019s homebred Broken Dreams<\/strong>\u00a0will defend her title against eight other fillies and mares in\u00a0<\/span>Saturday\u2019s Grade III, $100,000 Senator Ken Maddy Stakes for fillies and mares at about 6 \u00bd furlongs down Santa Anita\u2019s hillside turf course.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Trained by\u00a0<\/span>Tom Proctor,<\/strong>\u00a0the 6-year-old Florida-bred mare comes off a last place finish going 1 1\/16 miles on turf in the Grade II Yellow Ribbon Handicap at Del Mar Sept. 3.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In addition to her Maddy win last year, she has two exemplary seconds down the hill, both behind recently retired course specialist Unzip Me; in the Grade III Monrovia Handicap on Jan. 2, 2011, and in the Clockers\u2019 Corner Handicap on March 5, 2011.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Although she weakened after setting the pace in the Yellow Ribbon, she was an impressive gate to wire winner of the one mile Osunitas at Del Mar July 21.\u00a0 With her proven affinity for the course, the venerable Broken Dreams would appear to be the horse to beat Saturday.\u00a0 Along with a 3-1-2-0 record down the hill, her overall mark is 21-6-5-1, with earnings of $317,682.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Broken Dreams will again be ridden by\u00a0Garrett Gomez,<\/strong>\u00a0who guided her to victory in last year\u2019s Maddy and who has been aboard for five of her career victories.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Although a 3-year-old tackling older, the\u00a0Simon Callaghan-trained Byrama<\/strong>\u00a0has the look of a \u201cnow\u201d commodity, inasmuch as she won her most recent start, the Unzip Me Stakes, at Santa Anita on Sept. 29, and she retains the services of co-leading rider\u00a0Rafael Bejarano.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The 5-2 favorite when facing 11 other sophomores in the Unzip Me, Byrama made a sweeping four-wide move turning for home and won going away by a half-length.\u00a0 With her win in the Unzip Me, Byrama is now a perfect two for two down the hill and would again relish a fast pace to run at.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Always highly regarded, the English-bred Byrama, who is owned by Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, has $222,634 in earnings from a 12-4-3-3 record.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Veteran trainer Neil French<\/strong>\u00a0will be well represented by the 6-year-old California-bred daughter of Bench mark ,\u00a0Missdealornodeal.<\/strong>\u00a0 Haltered three starts back for $32,000, she then rattled off two good seconds going five furlongs on turf at Del Mar; in Aug. 10 Daisycutter Handicap and in a second condition allowance on Aug. 23.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Kevin Krigger,<\/strong>\u00a0who has won twice with her, will again ride Missdealornodeal for VIP Farms.\u00a0 One for two down the hillside turf course, her overall mark is 18-7-5-2, with earnings of $278,103.\u00a0 She is one of several Maddy entrants who have run well down the hill when forwardly placed.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Trainer Ben Cecil<\/strong>\u00a0will send out\u00a0Miss Mittagong,<\/strong>\u00a0who although she has run poorly in last two starts; the Grade I Zenyatta going 1 1\/16 miles on dirt and the restricted Adoration on Polytrack Sept. 2, she has a good measure of back class and should appreciate the return to turf.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Third in the Grade I Santa Margarita on March 17, second in the Grade II Santa Maria Feb. 18, and third in the Grade II Robert J. Frankel (turf) on Jan. 1, the 5-year-old Kentucky-bred daughter of Pleasantly Perfect will sprint for the first time in 17 months as she tries the hillside turf course for the first time Saturday.\u00a0\u00a0Owned by Kristina Cecil and<\/strong>Zillah Reddam,<\/strong>\u00a0Miss Mittagong has $211,324 in earnings from a record of 20-3-3-5.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Gary and Cecil Barber\u2019s Teroda,<\/strong>\u00a0a 4-year-old Kentucky-bred daughter of Limehouse, has an impressive 4-2-1-1 record over the course and gets the services of co-leading rider\u00a0Joe Talamo<\/strong>\u00a0in the Maddy.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Trained by\u00a0John Sadler,<\/strong>\u00a0Teroda has been idle since running a troubled seventh, beaten 3 \u00be lengths, in the Aug. 10 Daisycutter.\u00a0 An allowance winner over the course on Feb. 17, her best efforts down the hill have come when she\u2019s allowed to settle off the pace and make a run.\u00a0 Her overall mark of 13-3-3-3 has produced earnings of $164,753.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0David and Holly Wilson\u2019s 7-year-old Briecat<\/strong>\u00a0adds depth to the Maddy lineup, as the Grade II stakes winner will try the hillside for the first time Saturday.\u00a0 Winless from eight starts this year, she was a winner of the restricted Cool Air Stakes going six furlongs on turf at Betfair Hollywood Park on Dec. 7, 2011, a race in which she rallied from off the pace.\u00a0\u00a0Trained by Vladimir Cerin,<\/strong>\u00a0Briecat has amassed $681,938 in earnings from a record of 37-10-5-2.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Kindle,<\/strong>\u00a0a lightly raced 4-year-old trained by\u00a0Gary Mandella,<\/strong>\u00a0comes off a facile win in the 6 \u00bd furlong Bangles and Beads over Fairplex Park \u2019s five-eighth-mile bullring on Sept. 21.\u00a0 A perfect two for two on synthetic surfaces, the speedy daughter of Indian Charlie will be trying turf for the first time.\u00a0 She has earnings of $83,200 from a 6-3-1-0 record.<\/span><\/p>\n
