BELMONT<\/span> , N.Y. \u2013 Triple Crown contender I\u2019ll Have Another<\/strong> visited the paddock at Belmont Park Sunday morning, standing briefly in the saddling enclosure and walking several times around the paddock before heading to the track for his customary energetic morning gallop.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe way he went today, that will be the last time he\u2019ll see the paddock [before the race],\u201d said trainer Doug O\u2019Neill. \u201cHe\u2019s good to go.\u201d
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

After passing through the grandstand tunnel from the paddock to the main track, the handsome chestnut colt was warmly greeted by the \u201cBreakfast at Belmont \u201d fans who lined up along the rail to watch him gallop past with exercise rider Jonny Gonzalez. On June 9, the chestnut colt will attempt to add the 1 \u00bd-mile Belmont to his Kentucky Derby and Preakness victories and become racing\u2019s 12th<\/sup> Triple Crown winner.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s so cool to see the people in the paddock and in the grandstand,\u201d said O\u2019Neill, who trains I\u2019ll Have Another for J. Paul Reddam. \u201cYou can start feeling the excitement that the Belmont \u2019s coming. It\u2019s a huge credit to the Belmont people to set aside the special time, kind of closing off these 15 minutes and letting people come out and get a chance to see some of the runners. It\u2019s been fun.\u201d\"\"<\/a>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

O\u2019Neill, who watched I\u2019ll Have Another\u2019s gallop from the box seats in the grandstand, was also able to see several other Belmont contenders put in their final breezes for the \u201cTest of the Champion.\u201d
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t get a chance to really dissect the horses that worked, but when the horses came by me, I thought that Dullahan looked great, stretching out,\u201d said O\u2019Neill, adding he thought Paynter and trainer Ken McPeek\u2019s duo of Atigun and Unstoppable U looked good as well.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Informed that Dullahan\u2019s trainer, Dale Romans, thought he had the horse to beat in the race, O\u2019Neill said: \u201cI respect [Dale] a ton, so if he says that, it\u2019s scary. As confident as he is in his horse, I\u2019m equally confident in my horse. I think we\u2019re in really good shape.\u201d
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Coming through the stretch, I\u2019ll Have Another picked up the pace considerably and galloped out with good energy, which O\u2019Neill was delighted to see.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s just a special horse,\u201d he said. \u201cGood horses do things that are special very easily. It\u2019s so humbling to be around a horse like him. He\u2019s such a brilliant horse. We wouldn\u2019t be here without I\u2019ll Have Another\u2019s brilliance.\u201d
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

The trainer said he would like to have I\u2019ll Have Another moved into the Belmont Stakes barn Monday morning after training, and added that he was hoping the tightened security would help focus attention on the horse.\"\"<\/a>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI am kind of looking forward to running him in a situation when you\u2019re in a fishbowl and everyone who has thought negative thoughts about me can realize it\u2019s not about me, it\u2019s about the horse,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd they can watch him lead up to a historical event and, hopefully, watch him kick butt, in a fishbowl.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
