Day 2
A palpable buzz rolled across the frozen lake of St. Moritz for day two of the Snow Polo World Cup. Now in its 41st year, this highlight tournament has once again attracted a sell-out crowd, keen to witness every gallop-fuelled goal as the sport’s best players from all parts of the globe battle it out on the ice on Semi Finals’ day.
Today’s action opened with The President’s Cup between Mackage and Investec. In a gripping cat-and-mouse battle, the lead changed hands repeatedly, until Investec struck with an outstanding goal on the final whistle, delighting the packed stands.
As the sun made its first (and very welcome) appearance, tensions mounted as Flexjet and St. Moritz-Top of the World lined-up for the first Semi Final of the day. In extra-time, the 5-4 score not only secured Flexjet their place in tomorrow’s Final but also a voucher for a two night stay at Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi at the prize-giving.
With just one spot left in tomorrow’s Final and both teams, Azerbaijan-Land of Fire and Standing Rock, firmly focused on the prize, there was everything to play for. Five time winner, Charlton scored the winning goal, much to the delight of the Standing Rock fans. The 5-4½ final score also secured Standing Rock the U.S. Polo Assn. Cup presented by Michael Prince, President and CE
