LEXINGTON, KY (Oct. 9, 2013) – Ken and Sarah Ramsey’s homebred Kitten Kaboodle found room on the rail at the head of the stretch and spurted clear to win the 23rd running of the $150,000 JPMorgan Chase Jessamine (G3) for 2-year-old fillies by 4 3/4 lengths over favored Zinzay before a sun-splashed Wednesday afternoon crowd of 12,186 at Keeneland.

The victory earned Kitten Kaboodle a berth in the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1) to be run Nov. 1 at Santa Anita.

Trained by Chad Brown and ridden by Alan Garcia, Kitten Kaboodle covered the 1 1/16 miles on a firm turf course in 1:44.01. It marked first victory in the race for Brown and Garcia and the third for the Ramseys, who owned Word Puzzle in 2000 and Bail Out Becky in 1994 when the race was known as the Green River Stakes.

A Kentucky-bred daughter of Kitten’s Joy out of the Grand Slam mare Easy Slam, Kitten Kaboodle won for the first time in three starts after finishing second in two outings at Saratoga. Wednesday’s check of $90,000 improved Kitten Kaboodle’s bankroll to $124,000.

Garcia kept Kitten Kaboodle on the inside in the early running as Zip On set the pace uncontested through fractions of :23.15, :46.98 and 1:12.54. Approaching the head of the stretch, Zip On veered a bit to the outside, leaving a huge opening next to the rail that Garcia exploited.

Kitten Kaboodle collared Zip On at the eighth pole and drew off to equal the largest margin of victory in the race, a margin shared with Laragh (2007) and Ocean Drive (2002).

Kitten Kaboodle returned $9.40, $5 and $3. Zinzay, ridden by Joe Rocco Jr., returned $3.60 and $2.80 and finished a half-length in front of Courtesan, who paid $3.60 to show under Irad Ortiz Jr.

Candy Kitty finished a half-length back in fourth and was followed in order by Runway Giant, Zip On, Academic Probation, Shanon Nicole, Pretty Fancy and Richies Party Girl.

Racing continues Thursday with a nine-race program that begins at 1:05 p.m. (ET).
