NASHVILLE, Tennessee, May 7, 2015 – Crowds gathered early at Percy Warner Park this morning to hear post positions drawn for the horses participating in Saturday’s seven races at the 2015 Iroquois Steeplechase.

Led by Dwight Hall, Iroquois Steeplechase Race Committee chairman, the drawing determined the horses’ starting positions, and thus their saddlecloth numbers, for each of the day’s races, including the feature race: the Calvin Houghland Iroquois Grade I Hurdle Stakes. Positions were drawn by honored guests, announced by Hall and recorded by Iroquois Steeplechase Race Committee Coordinator Marianne Byrd.

Iroquois Steeplechase Race Committee President Albert Menefee commenced the drawing with the historic ringing of the bell. Following Iroquois tradition, the bell was painted with owners William L. Pape and Jonathan Sheppard’s race colors—blue and white—in honor of the fact that their horse, Divine Fortune, won last year’s feature race, the Iroquois.
