ARCADIA, Calif. (Oct. 29, 2013)—A wide open field of 10 California-bred or sired fillies will contest Friday’s $200,000, one mile Golden State Juvenile Fillies at Santa Anita, with the Doug O’Neill-trained Cal Gal designated as the lukewarm 3-1 favorite on Jon White’s morning line.

A one length open maiden special weight winner coming down the 6 ½ furlong hillside turf course Oct. 5, Cal Gal, a 2-year-old filly by Tapit, will try two turns for the first time and be ridden back by apprentice Irving Orozco.

O’Neill will also saddle Paul Reddam’s homebred Smoove It, who was third from the rail in the six furlong Anoakia Stakes on Oct. 13.  By Reddam’s Square Eddie, Smoove It drew the rail again and will go a route of ground for the first time Friday.  She has a win and two thirds from three starts.

Cal Gal, owned by Cam Allard, has had two five furlong works since her maiden score, the most recent in 59.40 on Oct. 25 at Santa Anita, fourth best of 47 at the distance.

Stole a Kiss, a 1 ¼ length state-bred maiden winner going six furlongs on Aug. 31 at Del Mar, has been installed as the second choice at 7-2.  Trained by Mike Puype, the daughter of Decarchy will try two turns for the first time and will be making her fourth start on Friday.  She is owned by Blinkers On Racing Stable, Fernando Espinoza, Gitipityapon and partners.

Harris Farms homebred Moving Desert, trained by Blake Heap, broke her maiden three starts back and was then second and third respectively, in the $100,000 Graduation and $150,000 Generous Portion Stakes at Del Mar on July 31 and Aug. 28.

By Desert Code, Moving Desert is 5-1-2-2, and will be ridden for the first time by Gary Stevens.

Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer will saddle Tommy Town Thoroughbreds’ homebred Whatsallthedrama.  A first out Cal bred maiden $50,000 winner Aug. 1, the daughter of Whatsthescript was subsequently a well beaten second in the Generous Portion and was most recently sixth, beaten 4 ¾  lengths, after a troubled start in a starter allowance on Oct. 6.
