RENO, NEV., June 25, 2013 — Tuesday night at the Reno Rodeo has unofficially become blue night, but it’s not because of a cause, for a sponsor or to honor anyone – it’s all about the bucking horses.

For several years, the stock contracting firms of Big Bend and Flying Five Rodeo from Ritzville, Wash., have brought a herd of blue roan horses here. In a coordinated effort with the main stock contractor here, Flying U Rodeo from Marysville, Calif., the blue roans are all used in the same performance in bareback and saddle bronc riding, then turned out in the arena for appreciative fans to see the whole herd.

Benefitting from getting on the blue roans on Tuesday were Tyler Corrington from Hastings, Minn., and Rusty Allen from Eagle Mountain, Utah. Corrington got on a horse named Broncy Blues and Allen rode Blue Blazes. They each scored 83 points and are currently tied for second in the first round of competition. With similar rides during the sixth performance, both of these men have the potential to qualify for Saturday night’s championship round.

Tom Lewis from Lehi, Utah, qualified for his first Wrangler National Finals Rodeo last year and is making a big push to get back there next December. Lewis is currently 10th in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association and could improve that significantly here. Lewis had a 5.0-second run during slack, then came back in the performance and stopped the clock in 4.6 seconds. He is currently fourth in the standings with a total time of 9.6. Hunter Cure from Holliday, Texas, is a full second ahead of Lewis with an 8.6.

Second generation team roper Brandon Beers from Powell Butte, Ore., moved into second in the overall standings with his partner Jim Ross Cooper from Monument, N.M. They have a total time of 10.8 seconds and are now making plans to be back here on Saturday night.

Tyler Willis from Wheatland, Wyo., made history here last Thursday when he became the last man to ride the Flying U/Rosser Rodeo bull named Bring It. He finished third at the Xtreme Bulls competition thanks in part to that ride. He competed at the rodeo on Tuesday and scored 85 points so should be adding to his earnings at the rodeo. Willis rode the Big Bend bull named Kool Money and is currently in second place in the standings behind Wyatt Mecham from Heber City, Utah.

The barrel racing at the fifth performance saw the fastest time of the rodeo so far. Christina Richman stopped the clock in 17.15 seconds in a beautiful run. Her first round run was slower, but her performance run made up so much ground that she is now in second place in the overall standings with 34.82 seconds. Sherry Cervi from Marana, Ariz., still leads with 34.43.

The sixth performance begins at 7 pm Wednesday. Tickets are available at www.renorodeo.com or by calling 800-325-7328. For more information, please call 775-329-3877.
