Pepperell, MA – November 28, 2012 – Ten Broeck Farm, a full service dressage training facility owned by Phil and Orintha Silva, completed a whirlwind 2012 season. In addition to teaching dressage and training young sporthorses, the season included hosting several large regional events, participating at select major shows, and providing the venue for shows and keurings sponsored by various equine organizations.

The show season for the Silvas began in April, when professional handler Phil Silva showed Festivo MR at the Equine Affaire in Ohio.  Over the long weekend of June 8-10, Ten Broeck Farm hosted New England’s first Young Horse Show, which is sponsored by Spy Coast Farm, with facilities in Kentucky, Florida and New York.  Ten Broeck Farm was among eight different locations for the new and growing Young Horse Show. Spy Coast Farm partners with the North American Studbook and Equestrian Sports Productions to make the series possible. Two separate breed shows were then held on Saturday and Sunday, June 9-10. They were part of the Great American USDF/New England Breed Show Series. On Saturday evening, Ten Broeck Farm welcomed more than 250 guests to hors d’oeuvres, wine, and a catered buffet dinner, followed by a special horse presentation. A portion of the evening’s proceeds were to benefit Home Health & Hospice Care of Merrimack, NH. The evening concluded with a Grand Finale Freestyle ridden by Orintha Silva on Karola I and Paige Finnegan on Tirza.

Forty-five entries competed under the eyes of judge Remmy Bron-von Dam from Holland at a Ten Broeck Farm schooling show on July 28.

Phil Silva handled horses at numerous events during the course of the summer while Orintha Silva continued to focus on training young sporthorses and teaching her dressage clients.

Phil Silva Handling Festivo MR at Dressage at Devon

Dressage at Devon in September proved to be a highlight event for Ten Broeck Farm. Phil Silva handled the PRE Stallion, Festivo MR, who topped the Four-Year-Old Stallion in Hand division, the Andalusian division, and the Iberian Horse division. The pair also claimed Reserved Champion in the Stallion Championship. Phil also wore what may become standard safety equipment for handlers.  After being kicked in the head by a young horse in August, Phil wore a helmet at Devon.

Damocles HLF, an Oldenburg colt owned by Meagan Davis, was very successful at Devon with Phil Silva handling. The pair earned the top call in the Two-year-old Colts and Geldings division, the Colt and Gelding Championship, the Young Horse Championship, and the USDF Colt Championship.

In addition to training young horses and assisting Phil, Orintha Silva competed at HITS Centerline and Vermont Dressage Days. Orintha was aboard Acorino, a Holsteiner Stallion currently standing at Ten Broeck Farm and owned by Sentinel Sport Horses. Acorino had several high Hunter Derby finishes in 2008 and 2009, was the 7/8-Year-Old Young Jumper Champion at the 2008 Aiken Spring Classic, and earned a Top Stallion AHHA approval in 2009.

Ten Broeck Farm was the venue for September’s New England KWPN-North America keuring hosted by Majestic Gaits of Brookline, NH and, in October, the farm was the venue for the North American Friesian Keur Inspections.

Ten Broeck Farm hosted a series of six versatility challenges by the Pepperell Horse Owners Association (PHOA). They also had a booth at November’s Equine Affaire in Springfield, Massachusetts.

At the end of November, Phil Silva will be the first professional handling coach and judge on the new and highly innovative HorseShow.com, founded by entrepreneurs Jeff Sloan and Tony Castiglione and well known dressage expert Gil Merrick. The site’s goal is to provide an affordable, online alternative to traditional showing and training.

The 2012 season at Ten Broeck Farm will conclude with a clinic by Dr. Christian Schacht, a prominent German veterinarian, breeder, trainer and riding instructor, on December 3-5.  Phil will continue to ship horses from Maine to Florida and points in between for the winter season. Phil will be one of the featured handlers for the Young Horse Finals at the Winter Equestrian Festival
