Lance Kramer Tops in Judges’ Voting; Miguel Mouchess Tabbed in Fan Favorite Category

Arcadia, CA, April 15 — A pair of $10,000 first prize winners were announced Sunday at Santa Anita in HRTV and Santa Anita’s second annual “A Day at the Races” Film Festival, a competition that required film makers to produce short subject films of under five minutes that were created solely at Santa Anita.

Lance Kramer of Kramer Productions (Altadena, CA) took the $10,000 Judges’ Prize Award, with a film entitled, “One,” while Miguel Mouchess of Cuatro Mascaras Productions’ (Downey, CA) was awarded the $10,000 Fan Favorite Award for its entry, “And Away They Go.”

Kramer Productions’ film “One” followed noted sports talk host, and racehorse owner, Jim Rome, and his horse Mizdirection, on their journey to victory.

“And Away They Go” highlighted the scenic backdrop of the San Gabriel mountains and historical architecture, and chronicled Santa Anita’s unique ability to bring the diverse horse racing culture and its fans together.

In all, there were 27 film submissions, which generated more than 6,000 online votes in the Fan Favorite Award category.

There were four more Judges’ Awards handed out, with a second-place prize of $4,000 going to Jeffrey Lascola (Fallbrook, CA), who submitted “Mossy.”

A third-place Judges’ Award of $2,000 went to Mike Gann (Anaheim, CA) for his submission, “Thunder,” while fourth ($1,500) and fifth place prizes ($500) went to Orlando Arango (San Bernardino, CA) for “A Day for Family,” and Kenneth Woodall’s (Irvine, CA) “Jockeys’ Anthem,” respectively.

“We would like to congratulate and thank all of the talented people that participated in the second annual Film Festival,” said Scott Daruty, President of HRTV. “For the second straight year, it’s very gratifying to see the creativity and dedication exhibited in all the entries. This Festival has been very well-received and we look forward to carrying on this tradition again next season.”
